Pascal Obispo Revives Michel Delpech’s Legacy with New Album and Virtual Duets
Ten years after the passing of French singer-songwriter Michel Delpech, Pascal Obispo is spearheading a project to reintroduce his music to a wider audience. The initiative culminates in the release of the album “Le chanteur” on February 6th, featuring re-orchestrated versions of Delpech’s classic songs and previously unreleased material.
A Tribute Ten Years in the Making
Delpech, known for hits like “Chez Laurette” and “Loir-et-Cher,” died just days before his 70th birthday. Obispo’s project includes a comprehensive collection of 21 CDs and 365 tracks, alongside a compilation album titled “80 years, 80 titles.” “Le chanteur” will feature seventeen songs by Delpech, reimagined and produced by Obispo, utilizing the original vocal recordings.
Virtual Duets Bring New Life to Delpech’s Music
A key component of the project is the creation of two virtual duets: “Wight is Wight” and “Le roi de rien.” These collaborations pair Obispo’s artistry with Delpech’s iconic voice, offering a fresh perspective on beloved songs. The first of these duets, “Wight is Wight,” is already available on all major streaming platforms as showcased on YouTube.
Obispo Reflects on His Friendship with Delpech
The project is deeply personal for Obispo, who considered Delpech a close friend. The re-orchestration and production aim to honor Delpech’s musical legacy although introducing it to a new generation of listeners. Observatorial.com notes the emotional weight Obispo carries when discussing his late friend.
