Permata Singapore: A Royal Feast Celebrating Nusantara Cuisine with Ramadan Special

Kampong Glam’s historic Gedung Kuning, also known as the “Yellow Mansion,” is home to Permata, a halal buffet restaurant offering a progressive dining experience. Led by Chef Mel Dean, Permata elevates traditional Malay Archipelago flavors with contemporary culinary techniques, creating a nostalgic yet refined dining experience.

Nusantara Ramadan Buffet

From February 1 to March 20, Permata presents its Nusantara Ramadan buffet, inspired by the diverse dishes enjoyed throughout the Malay Archipelago. Diners can take advantage of a one-for-one promotion for adults during this period, making it an ideal destination for multigenerational family gatherings. [1]

A Culinary Journey Through the Archipelago

The buffet focuses on regional depth rather than sheer volume, showcasing dishes like laksam Kelantan – hand-rolled rice noodles in a light coconut-mackerel broth – and nasi kerabu balado, a rice dish naturally tinted with butterfly pea flower, served with fiery Minangkabau-style red chilli sambal. Modern Twists on Traditional Flavors

Chef Mel Dean incorporates cross-cultural flair into the menu. Offerings include mee wak katok, a punchy stir-fried chilli noodle dish, and a unique rawon risotto, an Italian twist on the iconic Indonesian black beef soup from East Java, known for its rich, dark, and aromatic flavor. [1]

Pricing

Permata’s Nusantara Ramadan buffet is priced as follows:

  • Monday to Sunday (Dinner): S$108 for two adult diners
  • Seniors (above 60 years ancient): S$44
  • 13 to 17 years old: S$34

About Gedung Kuning

Gedung Kuning, meaning “Yellow Mansion” in Malay, was built before Istana Kampong Gelam (now the Malay Heritage Centre). Historically, it was part of a royal compound and shares Palladian architectural influences with the Istana. The building’s yellow exterior is a traditional symbol of royalty in the Malay world. [1] Haji Yusoff, a Javanese merchant and philanthropist, purchased Gedung Kuning in 1912. [1]
