Search Continues for Missing Body Parts in Sabah Dismemberment Case
The search for the final two missing body parts of a woman murdered and dismembered in Sepanggar, Sabah, remains ongoing, with authorities acknowledging the possibility that the remains may have been removed by scavengers or buried within waste. Despite intensive efforts, investigators have yet to locate the victim’s left leg and right arm.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun stated that the investigation is still active, but has yielded no new leads regarding the location of the missing remains. “Efforts to trace two more body parts of the deceased are still ongoing, but so far we have not found any clues,” Jauteh said during a press conference at the Ranau District Police Headquarters. “We believe there is a high probability that the missing parts were taken by dogs or wild animals, or perhaps mixed in with the rubbish. Nevertheless, the search continues.”
The initial discovery of the victim’s remains occurred on February 12 at Taman Indah Permai, where the body parts were found discarded at a trash collection point. A 71-year-ancient man, identified as the victim’s fiancé, has been arrested as the primary suspect in the case.
Police have also detained three of the suspect’s children to assist with the investigation, which reportedly stems from a dispute over finances and the victim’s alleged intention to marry another individual. Datuk Jauteh confirmed that the legal process is progressing despite the missing remains.
“The investigation is now in its final stages before the investigation paper is submitted to the public prosecutor,” he explained. Several arrests have been made, primarily involving family members of the main suspect, to aid in the investigation. The remand for the suspects is still in effect as the investigation nears completion for submission to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.
The victim’s family continues to cope with the uncertainty surrounding the incomplete burial. The victim’s children previously expressed their distress over the missing limbs, with one son identifying his mother’s remains at the scene during the initial stages of the recovery.
