Hill Country Businesses Receive Rapid Relief Following Devastating Floods
Small businesses in Kerr County and neighboring areas impacted by recent catastrophic flooding are now eligible for immediate financial assistance through a new initiative launched by LiftFund, a San Antonio-based nonprofit lender. The organization is deploying a combination of grants and zero-interest loans to help businesses recover and rebuild.
A Swift Response to Economic Disruption
LiftFund’s Hill Country Disaster recovery initiative encompasses two key programs: the Hill Country Emergency Grant Program and the Hill Country Disaster Relief Loan Program. This rapid response is fueled by over $1.6 million in emergency funding secured through partnerships with the Community foundation of the Texas Hill Country, Wells Fargo, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, and H-E-B. These collaborative efforts demonstrate a commitment to bolstering the regional economy during a critical time.
The programs offer substantial financial support, with grants available up to $10,000 and loans reaching up to $50,000, structured with manageable 36-month repayment terms. This financial flexibility is designed to alleviate immediate pressure on businesses struggling to cope with the aftermath of the floods.
The Critical Window for Small Business Survival
The urgency of this aid cannot be overstated. According to LiftFund President and CEO Amy Hereford, approximately 40% of small businesses are at risk of permanent closure if they lack access to capital within the first two weeks following a disaster. Moreover, an additional 25% face potential closure within the year. These statistics highlight the precarious financial position many small businesses occupy, and the vital role rapid intervention plays in their survival.
“Speed is of the essence when it comes to supporting these businesses,” Hereford emphasized. “We must protect the very foundation of our national economy – the small businesses that drive innovation and create jobs within our communities.” Recent data from the Small Business Governance shows that small businesses account for 44% of U.S. economic activity, underscoring their importance.
Building a Model for National Disaster Relief
LiftFund aims to not onyl provide immediate relief but also to establish a replicable model for swift disaster assistance nationwide.Currently, the organization has sufficient funding to assist approximately 300 small businesses. Hereford expressed hope that this initiative will inspire similar rapid-response programs across the country, ensuring that communities are better equipped to support their local businesses in the face of future disasters. The success of this program could pave the way for more proactive and efficient disaster relief strategies, minimizing long-term economic damage.
