Sharon Stone Defends Aging and Embraces Self-Expression
Sharon Stone, the acclaimed actress and artist, has sparked conversation with a series of recent Instagram posts defending aging and the freedom of artistic expression, particularly regarding the depiction of the human form. The 67-year-classic actress challenged societal norms surrounding age and nudity, prompting support from fellow celebrities and fans alike.
Challenging Societal Norms
Stone’s recent advocacy began after a film crew requested the removal of a nude painting, titled “The Goddess,” from view during a tour of her Los Angeles art studio. In a video posted on Tuesday, February 18, 2026, Stone questioned the fear surrounding aging and the human body. “Are we supposed to be terrified when we look in the mirror?” she asked. “Why are we supposed to be afraid of our own human self? It’s like the weirdest idea in the world to me.”
She further emphasized the importance of self-acceptance, comparing her body to a home: “Excuse me, I wear it every day. I get up in it. I go to sleep in it. It’s my apartment. I live here.”
A Broader Conversation About Acceptance
Stone’s Instagram caption echoed these sentiments, asking, “Why in 2026 are we still afraid of aging &. living in our own selves?” She asserted that individuals are more than their appearance, highlighting roles as artists, mothers, sisters, and professionals. She similarly questioned the societal acceptance of violence while simultaneously fearing nudity, stating, “We are afraid of nudity on our screens, our bodies, our home.. But not violence or every other thing we are constantly bombarded with day in and day out? Get real!”
In a previous video, Stone celebrated the female body, stating, “We’re the goddess of creation… We create the homes, we create the families, we create a life for everyone, and why should we be afraid of that?”
Support from Peers
Stone’s message resonated with many, including fellow actresses Courtney Love and Debi Mazar, who voiced their support in the comments section of her Instagram posts.
A Consistent Voice Against Ageism
This isn’t the first time Stone has publicly addressed ageism. In a March 2025 interview with the Sunday Times, she playfully acknowledged physical changes, noting her “underarms have pleats now,” but reframed them as a sign of strength and experience. She described them as “angel wings.”
In a January 2024 interview with the Sunday Times, Stone criticized those “embarrassed about being older” as “stupid and ungrateful,” expressing gratitude for her own health and longevity.
Artistic Pursuits and Upcoming Projects
Stone transitioned to visual art during the pandemic and has since exhibited her operate in cities including Connecticut, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Berlin. Her recent portrait series explores themes of loss and liberation. She is also returning to television with a role in Season 3 of HBO’s “Euphoria,” set to premiere on April 12.
