Singaporean Motorist Praises Johor Bahru Police After Scam at Checkpoint

A driver from Singapore has publicly thanked two police officers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, for their assistance after he was scammed at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) on February 23, 2026. The motorist reported being defrauded of RM100 (approximately S$33) by an individual posing as an immigration officer.

Details of the Scam

According to a letter shared by Johor Bahru South District Police on Facebook, the driver discovered his Touch ‘n Go card had insufficient funds while approaching Malaysian customs. He was then approached by a man in a green uniform who claimed to be an officer. The man instructed the driver to park near an immigration counter and offered to top up the Touch ‘n Go card for a fee.

The driver handed over his Touch ‘n Go card and RM100 in cash. The “officer” returned the card, stating the balance update would occur the following day, and allowed the vehicle to pass through using his own Touch ‘n Go card. Upon later checking the card balance, the driver found the top-up had not been processed.

Police Assistance and Gratitude

The motorist filed a report at the CIQ police station, where he received assistance from two officers he described as “polite, attentive, and professional.” He praised their prompt handling of the matter and their reassuring demeanor during a stressful situation. The driver expressed sincere appreciation for their “dedication and professionalism.”

Recent Checkpoint Incidents

This incident comes amid other reports of issues at the Johor Bahru checkpoint. On February 22, 2026, police were dispatched to investigate a separate incident involving a motorist who recklessly drove through the checkpoint, damaging barriers and traffic cones according to The Star. Authorities are currently seeking the driver involved in that incident.

Ongoing Investigation

Johor Bahru police are investigating the scam reported by the Singaporean motorist and are working to identify the individual involved. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
