Batam Eyes Tourism Boost as Singapore Tightens Vaping Restrictions

The Singaporean government’s restriction on vaping and its classification alongside drugs could potentially boost tourism in Batam city, located approximately 45 minutes to one hour by ferry from Singapore.

As a border town, Batam could become an option destination for Singaporeans seeking to engage in the activity, wich is prohibited in thier home country, according to an official.

Batam Tourism Agency head ardiwinata told The Jakarta Post on Monday that stricter policies in Singapore consistently drive its citizens to seek locations with more lenient regulations.

“If there are strict regulations from the Singaporean government, the public will have alternatives to enjoy them, with Batam being one of those alternatives,” he said.

“As long as it does not violate our regulations,they can choose Batam.”
