Tennis in Baden-Württemberg: A Changing Game

The relationship between Baden and Württemberg is rarely smooth. This extends to sports, too.No other German state is as divided as this one, still maintaining three regional sports organizations (Württemberg, Baden North, and South Baden) as of 2025. This division impacts individual sports, like football.

You Can’t Please Everyone

though, there’s growing recognition that structures established after World War II are outdated. Five years ago, the table tennis associations of Baden and Württemberg merged, and chess players are now considering a similar move. full mergers are more challenging for larger sports, but time is of the essence.

This leads us to tennis. With the third-highest membership numbers in the state – behind gymnastics and football – tennis is a significant sport. The Baden Tennis Association (BTV) and the Württemberg Tennis Association (WTB) aren’t planning a full merger right now.Rather, they’re merging the game itself, a move some consider revolutionary.

New Opponents and Changed Travel Times

Here’s the plan: the ten existing districts of the BTV and WTB will consolidate into eight new regions.
