The Literary Connection
Sylvia Plath first encountered Ted Hughes at a party in Cambridge in 1956, after being captivated by his poem “Hawk in The Rain.” Their meeting is considered a pivotal moment in literary history, leading to a passionate and tumultuous marriage. The couple collaborated creatively, teaching at institutions and traveling extensively, before settling in London to start a family. However, their relationship ultimately succumbed to the pressures of motherhood, domesticity, and Hughes’s attention from other women, leading to Plath’s tragic death. Their story remains a subject of intense fascination and scrutiny.
