From Rough to Ready: One Man’s Amazing Golf Course Restoration

Buying an abandoned golf course and restoring it from scratch sounds like a dream for manny golf fans. For one man in Maine, that dream is now reality.

A user who posts under the handle @thefairwayfields on TikTok and YouTube (and who lists his real name only as “Tye”) purchased the abandoned golf course in Chesterville, Maine, earlier this year.

After taking up golf last year, he quickly realized there wasn’t anywhere to play within 40 minutes. So, he decided to build his own course.

Tye detailed his vision for the abandoned course on his TikTok account. It includes an outdoor simulator bay, a normal driving range, and an Airbnb rental. This rental can be used as a venue for weddings and other events. the purchase also came with a trove of vintage golf carts that he’s restoring.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s incredibly rewarding,” Tye said in one of his videos.”Seeing the course come back to life is amazing.” He’s documenting the entire process, from clearing overgrown brush to rebuilding greens, and people are loving it.

The project isn’t just about golf, though. Tye envisions the course as a community hub. He plans to host events, offer lessons, and create a welcoming space for everyone. It’s a big undertaking, but he’s tackling it with enthusiasm and a clear vision.

He’s already made significant progress. Videos show freshly mowed fairways, meticulously maintained greens, and the beginnings of the Airbnb rental. It’s clear that Tye isn’t just restoring a golf course; he’s building something special.

you can follow Tye’s journey on TikTok and YouTube to see the transformation unfold. It’s a fascinating look at one man’s dedication to the game of golf and his commitment to revitalizing a forgotten piece of land.
