The World’s Most Productive Countries
A recent study conducted by Eskimoz has revealed the top 10 most productive countries globally. The findings were based on analyzing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per working hour, which provides a more accurate measure of labor efficiency than GDP per capita alone. This analysis sheds light on the economic productivity of countries beyond just their wealth per capita.
The study considered the 50 countries with the highest GDP per capita in 2022, calculated in international dollars (INT$). It further analyzed yearly working hours derived from average weekly work hours to determine productivity levels. By dividing GDP per capita by yearly working hours, the study established a productivity rating for each country’s workforce.
Additionally, while unemployment rates were not directly included in productivity calculations, they were presented to provide context regarding labor market conditions in each country.
Luxembourg Leads with Exceptional Productivity
Luxembourg emerges as the most productive country, generating an impressive $86.4 (+/- R1 500) in value per working hour. This remarkable productivity is supported by the nation’s highest GDP per capita among the top 10, standing at $137.9K, coupled with a moderate workweek of 30.7 hours. This underscores how shorter working hours can enhance productivity.
Ireland Secures Second Place
Ireland ranks second in the productivity stakes, producing $70.8 (+/- R1 200) per working hour. Despite having the third-highest GDP per capita among the top 10 at $114.1K, it showcases about an 18% lower productivity rate than Luxembourg. This difference highlights the significant influence of industry composition on a country’s productivity output.
Norway’s Work-Life Balance Triumph
In third place, Norway achieves $61.7 (+/- R1 100) per working hour, notable for its relatively short workweek of 27.1 hours—the third-shortest among the top 10 countries. This highlights Norway’s successful implementation of a work-life balance approach that has effectively enhanced its productivity.
