Multiple Vehicle Collision Closes Tunnel in Northern Norway

A traffic incident involving three vehicles – two trucks and a passenger car – caused the closure of a tunnel in Nordland county, Norway, on February 22, 2026. Fortunately, authorities report no injuries to the occupants of the vehicles involved.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) confirmed the road closure, which occurred at approximately 12:38 local time. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and facilitate the clearing of the tunnel.

According to police reports, all individuals involved – one person in each vehicle – appeared unharmed following the collision. Contractors and tow trucks were mobilized to remove the vehicles and debris, working to reopen the tunnel as quickly as possible.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration, established in 1864, is the government agency responsible for the planning, construction, and operation of Norway’s national and county road networks. It also oversees driver training, licensing, and vehicle inspections (Norwegian Public Roads Administration).

Motorists are advised to stay updated on road conditions via the “Vegvesen trafikk” app, particularly as roads, bridges, and tunnels in Norway may be subject to short-notice closures (Statens vegvesen).
