Donald Trump’s Relationship with Israel: A Problematic Alliance
Since resuming his presidency in 2025, Donald Trump’s stance on Israel has remained staunchly pro-Israel and vehemently anti-Palestinian. He has taken numerous actions that have solidified his position as a controversial figure in the region.
Erdogan and The International criminal court
During his first term, Trump’s support for Israel was already vocal. He frequently touted his position as “the best friend Israel ever had,” a sentiment reciprocated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This close relationship has only intensified in his second term, with Trump’s actions taking a particularly aggressive approach toward the Palestinian people.
Trump’s hostility towards the International Criminal Court (ICC) reached a new height when the organization issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
Citing the warrant, Trump imposed sanctions on the ICC, accusing the court of being biased against Israel. He then doubled down on his support for Netanyahu, inviting him to the White House for a joint press conference.
Trump’s stance is clearly labelled as pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian. During the press conference on February 4th, Trump announced his intent to “expel all Palestinians from Gaza” and “take over” the territory. He even stated, “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it”.
This called transgression of international law. Critics have labeled it a blatant act of ethnic cleansing.
The potential for profit
Adding to the controversy is the possibility that members of the Trump family stand to benefit financially from this annexation. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, through his investment firm Affinity Partners, has made several investments in Israeli companies. Saudi Arabia pledged a staggering $2 billion to Kushner’s new venture even before Trump returned to office. Furthermore, Kushner’s firm has been given permission to double its stake in Phoenix Financial, an Israeli company with known ties to the controversial expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory.

Turkey’s Role
Adding another layer of complexity, Netanyahu has suggested that, after the US forcibly evicts Palestinians from Gaza, they could be resettled in Saudi territory to form their own state.
The Gift of a Symbol of Terror
Adding to the growing list of controversial acts, Netanyahu gifted Trump a golden pager during their White House meeting on February 4th. This seemingly innocuous gift is steeped in controversy. It symbolizes a deadly terrorist attack carried out by Israel in Lebanon in September 2024, where a dozen civilians— including children—were killed when exploding pagers were used in the attack. UN experts have condemned the attack, labelling it a clear violation of international law.
The Trump administration praised the “operation” and Trump accepted the badge of terror with a handwritten inscription: “To President Donald J. Trump, Our greatest friend and greatest ally. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
This exchange has further cemented the image of a relationship tainted by questionable ethics and a disregard for international norms.
The Future of Palestine
Trump’s policies towards the Palestinian people are undoubtedly controversial and raise serious concerns about the future of Palestine. These actions raise critical questions about human rights, international law, and the very principles of diplomacy.
It’s imperative to stay informed, engage in critical discourse, and demand accountability from those in power.
