UK Defence Minister’s Video May Have Revealed Secret Ukraine Repair Facility

A video posted by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) featuring Defence Minister Luke Pollard touring a military repair facility in Ukraine was briefly online before being removed due to concerns it may have inadvertently revealed the site’s location to potential Russian attacks. The incident has sparked criticism, with some calling for Pollard’s resignation.

Details of the Facility and its Importance

The facility, one of four established in Ukraine, is designed to expedite the repair of damaged military equipment, including British-made AS-90 self-propelled howitzers. British engineers, contracted through companies like BAE Systems and AMS, function alongside Ukrainian technicians to restore equipment to operational status. The site has the capacity to repair up to 30 pieces of equipment simultaneously. The Guardian was granted access to the facility earlier this week, the first time media have been allowed to view the location.

Concerns Over Location Disclosure

Experts have raised concerns that the video, posted on Saturday, March 7, 2026, could be “geo-located” based on visual cues visible in the footage, potentially allowing Russia to identify and target the facility. Pollard reportedly described the surroundings in the video, further aiding potential geolocation efforts. MSN reports that the MoD removed the video within hours of posting it and contacted relevant authorities as a precaution.

Criticism and Calls for Accountability

The incident has drawn sharp criticism, with Matthew Ford, an associate professor of war studies at the Swedish Defence University, calling it a “proper f*** up” on X (formerly Twitter) and demanding Pollard’s dismissal. Others echoed these sentiments, accusing the Minister of jeopardizing British lives for the sake of positive publicity. The Guardian reported that Pollard defended the facility as a “risk worth taking.”
