US District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer’s temporary restrictive order, in effect until a February 14 hearing, explicitly prohibits “all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department” from accessing the department’s payment systems and other data. Individuals who have accessed this data since January 20, 2021, are further ordered to destroy all copies of downloaded material immediately.

An internal Treasury assessment, according to US media reports, classified the DOGE team’s access to federal payment systems as “the single biggest insider threat the Bureau of the Fiscal Service has ever faced”.
