Electromobility may not be such a sales hit as was to be expected, many automakers are putting the brakes on their overly optimistic plans. This also applies to Volkswagen, but simultaneously occurring it is indeed not giving up and is working hard on the “second generation” of its electric cars. We already met her, right in Prague!

At the clean mobility fair E-Salon 2025, Volkswagen showed two concepts that indicate the near future of the brand. And that’s very believable,as both concepts are 80% identical to the upcoming production cars,as Volkswagen’s chief designer,Andreas Mindt, told us.he personally presented both concepts to us on the eve of the motor show.

Andreas Mindt took up the position of chief designer of Volkswagen passenger cars in February 2023, when he replaced Jozef kabaně in this role. Before that, he led design at Bentley, historically he was involved in the design of the first generation Tiguan or the Golf 7, among other things. His main task is the creation of the second generation of the brand’s electric cars, wich are primarily new urban models with new front-wheel drive technology.

The first car presented is the Volkswagen ID.Cross, which debuted at the recent IAA Mobility motor show in Munich. It is a vision of an urban SUV with an electric drive, i.e. a kind of electric choice to today’s T-Cross, the production of the electric novelty should start already next year.

Škoda Elroq: A New Electric Vision with a Premium Ambition

Škoda is preparing to unveil its new compact electric SUV, the Elroq, and it’s aiming for a substantially higher price point than previously anticipated. While the initial design ideology leaned towards affordability, the brand now intends to position the Elroq with a price tag approaching 20,000 euros – roughly 480,000 CZK.

The Elroq’s design is already garnering positive attention, with many finding it more appealing than the current ID. model family. This shift towards a more premium offering suggests Škoda is confident in the Elroq’s ability to compete in a growing and increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
