Sixers Fall Flat Against Warriors in Blowout Loss
The Philadelphia 76ers struggled mightily on Thursday night, falling to the Golden State Warriors 139-105 in a lopsided defeat. The loss marked the second of a back-to-back for the Sixers, who looked fatigued after a tough matchup against the Sacramento Kings the night before.
Despite the return of Joel Embiid, the Sixers’ offense was never able to get going. Embiid finished with 28 points on 8-of-19 shooting, but much of his production came after the game was already out of reach.
Paul George also struggled, scoring 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, but couldn’t find his rhythm until the game was well in hand. Tyrese Maxey, coming off a strong performance against the Kings, endured a difficult night, shooting just 4-of-13 for 14 points. He did add six assists and three turnovers, but his shooting woes were evident.
The Warriors, led by Stephen Curry’s 30-point outburst, were on fire from the start. Curry was nearly unstoppable, making all eight of his three-point attempts. Golden State’s balanced attack proved too much for the Sixers to handle.
A Rough Start
The first quarter was a nightmare for the Sixers, who committed a slew of turnovers and couldn’t buy a basket. They shot just 2-of-11 from the field, unable to stop the Warriors’ backdoor cuts and transition offense. The Warriors led by 16 after the first twelve minutes.
Second Quarter Struggles
The second quarter began much the same way as the first, with the Warriors extending their lead with efficient three-point shooting. Embiid’s return brought a brief spark, but the Sixers still couldn’t keep pace. The Warriors marched into halftime with a commanding 16-point lead.
Third Quarter Fade
The third quarter belonged to the Warriors. They continued to pour in points, leaving the Sixers reeling. The Warriors’ lead swelled to 25 points after three quarters, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.
Empty Effort in the Fourth
The final quarter was played out almost entirely to avoid suffering any further embarrassment. While Maxey and George remained on the floor, the Sixers clearly had checked out.
Looking Ahead
The Sixers will look to bounce back from this disappointing loss when they return to the East Coast to face the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday evening.
