World Baseball Classic 2026: A Guide to the Tournament

The sixth edition of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) is set to begin on March 4th, with a matchup between Chinese Taipei and Australia in the Tokyo Dome. The tournament, held every four years, last took place in 2023, with previous editions in 2021 and 2025 postponed due to the global pandemic. Tournament Pools

The 2026 WBC will feature four pools, each containing five teams:

  • Pool C (Tokyo): Australia, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Czechia, Japan, South Korea
  • Pool D (Miami, FL): Dominican Republic, Israel, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Venezuela

Schedule Highlights

Exhibition games between Major League teams and teams from Pools A, B, and D will begin on March 3rd in Florida and Arizona. The Detroit Tigers will be the only MLB team to travel for these exhibition games, facing the Dominican Republic on March 3rd and 4th in Santo Domingo [2].

Pool C games commence on March 4th in Tokyo, while the remaining pools begin play on March 6th. A key game to watch on the first full day will be Cuba versus Panama. The United States will play Brazil on the same night, and Canada will begin its tournament on March 7th against Colombia at 11:00 am EST.

The preliminary round concludes on March 11th, followed by a day off for all playoff-bound teams. The quarterfinals will be held on March 13th and 14th in Houston and Miami, with two games each day. The semifinals are scheduled for March 15th and 16th, and the final will accept place on March 17th – all in Miami.

How to Watch

Fox holds the broadcasting rights for the WBC, with most games airing on the Fox broadcast network, FS1, and FS2. Select preliminary-round games will be streamed on the Fox App, and others will be available on Tubi, a free streaming service.

Games involving the US will primarily be broadcast on Fox, accessible through basic cable systems or an antenna. Quarterfinal day games will be on FS1 or FS2, while night games will be on Fox. Both semifinal games will be on FS1, and the final will be broadcast on Fox.

Tigers in the WBC

Ten players with ties to the Detroit Tigers organization will participate in the 2026 WBC:

  • Pool B: Tarik Skubal (USA)
  • Pool C: Woo-Suk Go (South Korea), Jahmai Jones (South Korea), Hao-Yu Lee (Chinese Taipei)
  • Pool D: Emmanuel De Jesus (Venezuela), Duque Hebbert (Nicaragua), Kenley Jansen (Netherlands), Charles Lequerica (Israel), Keider Montero (Venezuela), Gleyber Torres (Venezuela)

Jordan Balazovic, formerly with the Tigers organization, will represent Canada. Tommy Kahnle, recently released by the Tigers, is playing for Israel.
