Attorney General’s Office (Attorney General) denied reports of Operation Arrest (OTT) against the Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin.

Head of the attorney General’s Legal Data Center, Anang Supriatna, said that Erwin was onyl undergoing examination at the Bandung District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari).

“There is no OTT, it is being investigated as a normal case. Currently it is being investigated but not OTT,” said Anang.

What is an OTT?

An Operasi tangkap Tangan (OTT), or Operation Arrest, is a common investigative technique used in Indonesia, especially by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and, sometimes, the attorney General’s Office. It involves catching someone in the act of committing a crime, usually related to corruption, by directly observing and apprehending them during the transaction.

Why the Confusion?

Reports of an OTT likely stemmed from initial observations of activity at the Bandung Kejari. However, the Attorney General’s Office clarifies that the situation is a standard inquiry, not a surprise arrest during a criminal act.

What Happens Next?

The investigation into Erwin is ongoing. The Attorney General’s Office has not released details about the nature of the investigation, but confirmed it is being handled as a routine case.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Attorney General’s Office has officially denied reports of an OTT against Bandung Deputy Mayor Erwin.
  • Erwin is currently being examined at the Bandung District Prosecutor’s Office.
  • The examination is part of a standard investigation, not a surprise arrest.
  • An OTT is a specific investigative technique in Indonesia involving catching someone in the act of a crime.
