Mombasa, Kenya – A man collapsed during a Maulid celebration at the Masjid Ummu Kulthum in Mombasa on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The incident occurred while attendees were commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
Witnesses reported that the man, whose identity hasn’t been released, suddenly fell unconscious. Medical personnel were instantly called to the scene and provided first aid. He was then transported to Coast general Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
“It was quite a shock,” said one attendee who wished to remain anonymous. “Everything was going smoothly, and then suddenly,he just collapsed. People rushed to help, and thankfully, medical assistance arrived quickly.”
The cause of the collapse is currently unknown. Authorities are investigating whether it was due to a pre-existing medical condition, dehydration, or the large crowds gathered for the event. Hospital officials have stated that his condition is stable, but they are continuing to monitor him closely.
The Maulid celebration continued after the man was taken to the hospital, with organizers emphasizing the importance of safety and well-being during large gatherings. They urged attendees to stay hydrated and to seek medical attention if they felt unwell.
This incident highlights the need for adequate medical support at large public events. The Kenya Red Cross and other organizations often provide medical assistance at such gatherings, but more resources may be needed to ensure the safety of all participants.
