Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed data from a public survey showing increased trust in the government. The data was released in October 2025, a month after he officially joined the cabinet as State Treasurer.
This refutes claims made by former Head of the Presidential Office (PCO) Hasan Nasbi, who stated that Purbaya’s communication style, often perceived as critical of other officials, could weaken government solidarity.
“The government’s stability is very good in the eyes of the public, except in the eyes of that person,” Purbaya stated at the Bank Mega Tower, South Jakarta, on Monday (October 27, 2025).
Trust in Government Rises
Purbaya presented consumer confidence index data from the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) as of October 2025. The data indicated improving public confidence following a decline that coincided with widespread demonstrations in August 2025.
“July-August-September saw a continued drop to its lowest point,coinciding with numerous demonstrations. We implemented policies that some groups considered drastic, perhaps even harsh, but these succeeded in shifting public sentiment towards the government. In fact, confidence levels have now stabilized,” Purbaya explained, displaying the survey results.
Purbaya attributed the improved public trust to positive economic conditions. He also asserted that his direct communication style has been instrumental in restoring public confidence.
“There is a correlation.When the economy is poor, people dislike the government, leading to large demonstrations. When the economy improves, they are happy with the government. So, while I may seem like a ‘cowboy,’ I am actually restoring people’s trust in the government.”
