Hong Kong Police Hunt Suspects in $12 Million Gold Bar Heist
Hong Kong police are investigating the theft of approximately 73 kilograms of gold bars, valued at an estimated US$12 million, from a shop in Hung Hom. A manhunt is underway for three suspects believed to be involved in the sophisticated deception.
Details of the Theft
On Friday, police responded to a report made by a woman who alerted authorities to a suspected burglary at a gold shop located in Peninsula Square on Sung On Street. The shop owner informed the woman that someone had stolen the gold bars and fled in a private vehicle. Hong Kong police are currently investigating the incident.
Suspects and Vehicle
According to a source familiar with the investigation, a former partner of the shop allegedly deceived the manager into handing over the gold bars. The suspects then escaped in a black Tesla with a driver.
Police briefly stopped a white vehicle near a toll plaza on the North Lantau Highway, en route to the airport, but determined it was not connected to the case.
