BGN Suspends SPPGs Linked to Viral Dancing Man, Reveals He Controls Seven Kitchens
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN), Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency, has taken action against a man who went viral on social media for dancing in a Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) – Free Nutritious Meals – kitchen. The BGN revealed that the man controls seven Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) – Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units – but only one is currently operational, with the remaining six still in the preparation phase.
Viral Video Prompts Investigation
The controversy began when a video circulated online showing the man dancing in a kitchen bearing the BGN logo. A subsequent video depicted him dancing without personal protective equipment (PPE), sparking public criticism. Concerns were raised about the appropriateness of his behavior and the potential disregard for hygiene standards within the MBG program.
BGN Response and Suspension
Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, Deputy Head of the BGN, stated that the agency immediately assigned its Director of Monitoring and Supervision to meet with the man and issue a strong reprimand. One of the SPPGs already in operation has been temporarily suspended due to layout violations that did not adhere to established technical guidelines (juknis). The remaining six SPPGs, which are not yet operational, will be closely monitored throughout their development, and implementation.
Program Integrity and Concerns About Commercialization
Deyang emphasized that the MBG program is a government initiative designed to improve the nutrition of Indonesian children and is not intended for commercial gain. “This is not a business,” she stated. “This is a program government for intelligent children. It should not be done like that.” She expressed disappointment with the man’s actions, particularly the creation of content within the kitchen without proper PPE.
SPPG Layout and Compliance
The suspended SPPG was found to be non-compliant with BGN’s technical guidelines regarding kitchen layout. Deyang explained that specific requirements exist for the design and setup of these kitchens, and the suspended unit failed to meet those standards. The agency is ensuring that all SPPGs adhere to these guidelines to maintain program quality and safety.
Ongoing Monitoring and Oversight
The BGN is committed to closely monitoring all SPPGs to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent similar incidents from occurring. Deyang reiterated the importance of maintaining the integrity of the MBG program and protecting the well-being of the children it serves.
