Jokowi’s Residence Draws Crowds, Dubbed ‘Solo Wailing Wall’ – Aide Urges Respect for Privacy

Solo, Indonesia – The private residence of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Solo has recently become a focal point of attention, attracting visitors who have playfully dubbed it the “Solo Wailing Wall” after it appeared as such on Google Maps. While access to the property remains unrestricted, presidential aide AKBP Syarif Fitriansyah has appealed to the public to refrain from treating the location as a tourist attraction or religious site.

Viral Trend and Google Maps Designation

The phenomenon began when Jokowi’s home on Jalan Kutai Utara No. 1 was tagged as “Tembok Ratapan Solo” (Solo Wailing Wall) on Google Maps. This led to the circulation of videos on social media, including one shared by the Instagram account @indopium, depicting a young man seemingly “wailing” at the gate of the residence. The post humorously suggested that expressing grievances at the location might bring political success.

Aide’s Response and Appeal to the Public

AKBP Syarif Fitriansyah addressed the situation on Monday, February 16, 2026, stating, “There are no (restrictions), it remains as usual.” However, he emphasized the importance of respecting the privacy of President Jokowi and his family. He urged visitors not to engage in the “wailing” actions seen in viral videos. “Yes, there are people (who wail), we urge them not to do the same thing,” Syarif stated.

Clarification of the Location’s Status

Syarif firmly clarified that the location is a private residence, not a religious or historical monument. “Due to the fact that this is the residence of Mr. Joko Widodo and Mrs. Iriana, not the Wailing Wall of Solo,” he stressed. He confirmed that he was aware of the Google Maps designation but was unsure if President Jokowi was also aware of it.

No Restrictions, But Respect Requested

Despite the viral trend and the playful nickname, Syarif confirmed that there would be no special restrictions placed on visitors or those passing by the residence. He stated, “Yes, it’s still normal (there are no restrictions on visitors).” However, the appeal remains for the public to treat the location with respect as a private home.
