KPU Cancels Decree on Confidential Presidential Candidate Documents
General Election Commissions (KPU) officially canceled the Decree of the KPU RI Number 731 of 2025 concerning Determination of Documents for the Requirements of the Pair of Presidential and Vice President Candidates as Public Information Excluded by the KPU.
The Decree of the KPU RI 731/2025 contained provisions regarding 16 documents for the registration requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates as information that is excluded or cannot be opened to the public without the approval of related parties.

This decision reverses a previous stance that aimed to keep certain candidate documents private. The KPU’s initial decree sparked debate regarding openness in the presidential election process.
The 16 documents previously designated as confidential included details related to candidates’ wealth, legal history, and family relationships. The KPU argued that releasing this information without consent could violate privacy rights.
However, critics argued that the decree undermined public trust and hindered voters’ ability to make informed decisions. Transparency advocates emphasized the importance of access to candidate information for a fair and democratic election.
The cancellation of decree 731/2025 means that these documents will now be subject to public information laws, perhaps allowing greater scrutiny of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The KPU has not yet released a detailed clarification for the reversal, but it is expected to issue a statement outlining the rationale behind the decision. This development marks a notable shift in the KPU’s approach to candidate information disclosure.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
