The trams will be equipped with batteries, each one will travel at least 3 kilometers outside the wires.
MPK Kraków orders more new trams from Pesa. This is already the third contract for the supply of new trams that the two companies have concluded together in the last six months. It is based on previously signed framework contracts for up to 90 cars.
This time, the carrier bought 15 fully low-floor trams with a length of over 33 meters. They are scheduled to arrive in the city in 2028 and 2029. Each of the new trams will be equipped with a system that allows driving without catenary for a distance of at least 3 kilometers.
The contract is worth almost 273 million zlotys without VAT (1.6 billion crowns). As in previous cases, the financing will be provided by a loan from the National Plan for Reconstruction and Resilience with a fixed interest rate of 1 percent and a repayment period of 20 years.
The contracts signed so far for 50 Pesa trams will allow Kraków to decommission all high-floor cars of types 105Na, E1 and c3, as well as part of the EU8N cars.
“We have repeatedly informed that, thanks to the purchase of new trams, we will eliminate all high-floor cars. Now we have another good news for residents. EU8N trams will begin to disappear from the streets of Krakow. Although they have a partially low floor and air conditioning, they certainly do not provide as much comfort as new cars.” said the chairman of the board of directors of MPK Kraków Rafał Świerczyński.
How informed the carrier in the press release, if it succeeds in obtaining additional funds from EU funds, will also use the option for the remaining 25 cars. MPK Kraków competed in one-way and two-way trams with a length of 32 meters and trams with a length of 42 to 45 meters. The Czech Škoda Group was also interested in supplying the latter.
“The trams we will deliver have been designed with passenger comfort and driver ease of use in mind. We have combined the latest technological solutions with experience gained from providing services in many Polish and European cities,” Pesa boss Krzysztof Zdziarski presented the latest Twist 3.0 platform earlier.
Krakow orders more trams. They will be longer, equipped with a battery for the first time in Poland
