Landslide Closes National Highway 13 in Suldal, Norway

National Highway 13 near Lovraeidet in Suldal municipality, Norway, is closed due to a landslide that occurred at 8:45 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026. A vehicle was struck by rocks, sustaining material damage, but the two occupants were not seriously injured and one was transported to Haugesund Hospital for examination. Haugesund’s Avis first reported the incident.

Landslide Details and Road Closure

The landslide, which occurred on a stretch of road known to be prone to landslides, has resulted in the closure of National Highway 13 at Lovraeidet. The road will remain closed until at least 10:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026, for a latest assessment of the area’s safety. Vegtrafikksentralen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) is managing the closure and assessment.

Detour Information

Traffic is being detoured via Gullingen during the closure. Motorists are advised to expect delays. National Highway 13 is currently serving as a detour route following a separate, large landslide that has closed E134 in Fjæra in Åkrafjorden.

Ongoing Skredsikring (Landslide Protection) Work

The area between Lovraeidet and Rødsliane is undergoing skredsikring (landslide protection) work, with phase 1 of the project beginning on Monday, March 2, 2026. This work may result in manual traffic control and potential road closures of up to two hours at a time. Known Landslide-Prone Area

National Highway 13 between Lovraeidet and Rødsliane is recognized as a particularly landslide-prone section of road due to its challenging topography and large areas of loose rock and debris. Statens vegvesen (The Norwegian Public Roads Administration) has identified this stretch as needing significant improvement.
