Barn Fire in Levanger Leaves One Dead, Another Hospitalized

LEVANGER, Norway – A fire in a barn in Markabygda, Levanger, on Sunday resulted in the presumed death of one man and left another hospitalized with burn injuries, according to reports from local authorities.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at 11:39 AM local time by passersby, as reported by 110 Norway St. Olav’s Hospital.

One Presumed Dead, Another Airlifted to Hospital

One man in his 50s is believed to have died in the fire. A man in his 60s sustained burn injuries and was transported by air ambulance to St. Olav’s University Hospital in Trondheim for treatment. Police have notified the next of kin.

Fire Under Control, Investigation Underway

The barn was completely destroyed by the fire, but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. As of 6:00 PM local time, the fire service was working to cool the site to allow forensic technicians to begin their investigation, according to St. Olav’s Hospital.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
