Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances (PES) policy, according to a report by ESPN.

Second Suspension for Williams

This marks the second suspension for Williams in as many years. Last season, the young receiver initially faced a six-game suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy, which was later reduced to four games. Now, Williams’ breakout third year will be temporarily halted due to the latest violation.

According to the NFL PES policy, players can be suspended for two games for a positive test result involving “Stimulants, Diuretics or Masking Agents.”

Impact on Lions Offense

Williams’ absence is a significant blow to Detroit’s high-powered offense. His performance in 2022, despite missing most of the season due to an ACL injury, showed his potential. This latest suspension adds further adversity to Williams’ career, forcing him to miss crucial games early in the season.

Assuming the suspension holds, Williams will miss this week’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans and the subsequent NFC North showdown with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Williams’ Statement

Williams released a statement to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard regarding the situation:

“No choice but to take it on the chin. I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with my brothers ASAP, soon as possible.”

The NFL has not officially announced the suspension, and the Lions have yet to comment on the matter.
