EIGHT-YEAR-OLD SURVIVES FIVE DAYS ALONE IN LION-INFESTED GAME PARK
HARARE – In a remarkable story of survival, an eight-year-old boy named Tinotenda Pudu has been found safe after wandering alone for five days in the perilous Matusadonha Game Park in Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe.
Lost and Alone in the Wild
According to Mashonaland West Proportional Representation MP, Mutsa Murombedzi, Tinotenda got lost near his rural Kariba home and unknowingly wandered into the dangerous game park.
“A true miracle in remote Kasvisva community, Nyaminyami in rural Kariba, a community where one wrong turn could easily lead into a game park. 8-year-old Tinotenda Pudu wandered away, lost direction and unknowingly headed into the perilous Matusadona game park,” Murombedzi wrote on X.
The young boy endured a harrowing ordeal, traveling 23 kilometers from home, sleeping on precarious rocky outcrops, and navigating near lions and elephants. He survived by eating wild fruits and drinking from water sources in the dry riverbeds.
Brave Rangers and Community Unity Bring Him Home
Murombedzi praised the bravery of the park rangers who found Tinotenda and the Nyaminyami community who helped by beating night drums to try and guide him back towards safety.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to the brave park rangers, the tireless Nyaminyami community who beat night drums each day to get the boy hear sound and get the direction back home and everyone who joined the search. Above all, we thank God for watching over Tinotenda and leading him back home safely. This is a testament to the power of unity, hope, prayer and never giving up,” Murombedzi added.
Tinotenda’s remarkable story of resilience highlights the dangers of wildlife areas and the importance of safety precautions, especially for young children.
