Search for Two Teen Hikers Underway in Femunden Region of Norway
A search operation has been launched in the Femunden region of Norway for two 17-year-old boys who were reported missing after failing to check in as planned during a hiking trip. The search began on September 12th, and authorities are taking precautions due to deteriorating weather conditions.

Police operations manager Vidar Flokenes stated that the boys are experienced hikers and were well-equipped for an extended trip. Although, after they failed to produce contact as scheduled, authorities initiated a search. The search area is focused on the Grøtådalen valley.
The search involves collaboration between the police, the Central Rescue Center, and the Red Cross. The Red Cross has deployed multiple teams with snowmobiles to assist in the operation. Initially, three teams consisting of four people each were dispatched from Os, Tynset, and Rendalen. Five additional volunteers later joined the effort, bringing the total Red Cross personnel involved to nine.
Resources Deployed
A rescue helicopter from Ørlandet has been deployed to conduct aerial searches of the area. Red Cross teams are utilizing three snowmobiles to cover ground effectively. Communications advisor Liv Berit Karlsen emphasized the Red Cross’s preparedness, stating that many volunteers were ready to assist immediately.
Weather Concerns and Outlook
Authorities are particularly concerned about the worsening weather conditions, including increasing wind and snowfall, which prompted the early launch of the search as a precautionary measure. While police have indicated they are not overly worried about the boys’ well-being, the deteriorating conditions necessitate a swift and thorough search.
The Red Cross personnel involved are well-trained and familiar with the terrain, equipped with necessary supplies for such operations.
