Since 2003, the Oslo Forum has brought together global leaders, mediators, conflict parties and experts in Norway to assess crises, support dialogue, and create pathways to peace. Co-hosted by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the annual retreat provides a discreet space for diverse actors to share knowledge and work on practical solutions to conflicts under the Chatham House Rule. The 22nd edition in 2025 focused on the theme “All hands on deck: Mediation in a changing world,” drawing over 140 participants from 50 countries. Beyond the main gathering in Norway, the Oslo Forum has convened regional retreats in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and other regions, including a January 2022 session on preventive diplomacy for the UN Security Council during Norway’s presidency and a November 2023 meeting for the Middle East and North Africa in Muscat, Oman. The Forum’s closed-door discussions allow participants to speak openly and contribute ideas for sustainable conflict resolution. Attendance is by invitation only. The Oslo Forum team shares insights through its podcast, The Mediator’s Studio, hosted by HD’s Adam Cooper, and publishes expert guidance on mediation practice. As an independent, neutral platform, the Oslo Forum continues to play a vital role in advancing global peacemaking efforts.
