Plane and Helicopter Collide Mid-Air Near Reagan National Airport
A shocking mid-air collision involving a commercial jet and a helicopter shut down operations at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening. The FAA confirmed that a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 and a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter collided while approaching the airport.
Images and videos circulating on social media appeared to show the aircraft colliding over the Potomac River. Dramatic footage captured the aftermath, with emergency responders arriving on the scene, including fireboats searching the water.

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department confirmed the incident, stating, “Confirmed small aircraft down in Potomac River vicinity Reagan National Airport. Fireboats on scene.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are jointly investigating the cause of the collision. The NTSB will lead the investigation, which is expected to take months to complete.
