Sri Mulyani Out as Finance Minister; Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa Appointed
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Sri Mulyani is no longer the Minister of Finance following President Prabowo Subianto’s inauguration of Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as the new minister.
President Prabowo subianto reshuffled his cabinet today, Monday, September 8, 2025. This marks Prabowo’s first cabinet reshuffle as taking office on October 20, 2024.
The change at the Ministry of Finance comes as a surprise, despite frequent rumors of Sri Mulyani’s potential departure.
Reports suggested Sri Mulyani would resign after a looting incident at her residence on Jalan Mandar, Bintaro Sector III, South Tangerang, during recent demonstrations.
She also faced significant public pressure following controversial remarks regarding the welfare of teachers and lecturers. The Ministry of Finance claimed a viral video of the statement was a manipulated deepfake.
Moreover, allegations surfaced concerning a Rp 50 million monthly allowance for members of the House of Representatives, sparking large-scale protests in Jakarta over the past few days.
Following reports of her resignation, Prabowo officially replaced Sri Mulyani today. The former Managing Editor of the World Bank had previously tendered her resignation from the position of Minister of Finance.
