With the global gearbox market projected to reach $115.8 billion by 2030 (according to a recent report by Grand View Research), advancements in this field are crucial for industries ranging from automotive and aerospace to renewable energy.

Required skills & Qualifications

To be accomplished in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation in technical principles and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with:

Analytical & Autonomous Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to work independently, structure tasks effectively, and apply analytical thinking to complex challenges.
CAD Proficiency: Familiarity with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) applications is essential. Experience with software like SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar programs is highly valued.
Programming Aptitude: A willingness to learn and apply programming skills, particularly in Python, is necessary.

Responsibilities & Project Overview

As a student research assistant, you will be directly involved in several key areas of our ongoing research:

Algorithm Development: Contribute to the creation and refinement of algorithms focused on optimizing gearbox performance and efficiency. This includes exploring novel approaches to gear design and dynamic modeling.
Software Integration: Assist in developing interfaces between Python scripting and CAD software, enabling automated data exchange and streamlined workflows. For example, you might help create a script to automatically generate gear geometry variations for simulation.
GUI Development: Design and implement user-amiable Graphic User Interfaces (GUIs) for specialized technical tools. This will involve utilizing GUI frameworks to create intuitive interfaces for researchers and engineers.
Data Analysis & Evaluation: Develop and apply evaluation routines to analyze measurement data obtained from gearbox testing. This includes statistical analysis, data visualization, and the identification of key performance indicators.

Position details & Compensation

This is a part-time student assistant position with flexible working hours, typically 8-10 hours per week, adjustable to accommodate your academic schedule. The position is initially limited to 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
