U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the military operation against Iran, codenamed “Operation Epic Fury,” is nearing its end following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. Trump Assesses Iran’s Military Capabilities

Speaking to CBS News, Trump asserted that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely diminished. He stated, “[Iran has] no navy, no communications, they’ve got no Air Force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones. He claimed Iran has “nothing left” from a military perspective, following reported U.S. Strikes against over 3000 targets in the past week.

Succession in Iran: Mojtaba Khamenei Named Supreme Leader

The developments follow the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the previous Supreme Leader of Iran, on February 28th. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader, despite previous suggestions from Trump that he wanted influence over the selection of Iran’s new leadership. Mojtaba Khamenei is considered a hard-liner and will oversee Iran’s armed forces and nuclear program.

During their hour-long conversation, Putin and Trump also discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and the situation in Venezuela, according to TASS. The Kremlin described the discussion as “frank and businesslike.”
