One of these apps, Made O’Meter, which reached a total of over 100,000 people, saw 30,000 new downloads in just a few days in January. He stated this according to the agency AP Dane Ian Rosenfeldt, who created it.
The app allows you to easily find out the origin of products using a barcode scanner, which makes it easier for users to make an informed purchase decision.
Some consumers started boycotting American goods last year after Donald Trump took office. Then interest in the apps waned, but when the head of the White House started talking about buying Greenland and increasing the pressure, it revived again – the number of product scans in the Made O’Meter shot up to almost 40,000 in a single day.
Rosenfeldt said that thousands of people use the applications today not only in Denmark, but also in Germany, Spain, Italy and Venezuela.
The new version of the app uses artificial intelligence to identify multiple products at once and recommend European alternatives to them. According to Rosenfeldt, the accuracy of the application is over 95 percent.
Another similar application is “NonUSA“. It too has more than 100,000 downloads, with 25,000 added in one day in January.
The creators of these apps claim that they give users a greater sense of control and can symbolically protest against American politics. On the other hand, experts point out that the real impact will be minimal in ordinary Danish stores, since American products only make up 1 to 3 percent of the assortment there. These are, for example, nuts, wine or sweets.
If people wanted the impact of their boycott to be greater, it should concern the widespread American technologies in the country, such as iPhones or Microsoft Office tools.
Anti-Trump red caps from Jesper Rabe Tønnesen are bought in bulk not only in DenmarkVideo: News
The pressure of the Americans in Denmark in January caused mass street protests, the symbol of which became the red caps parodying the identification symbol of Trump’s MAGA movement (Make America Great Again – Let’s make America great again). But on their side shines the message Make America Go Away (Let’s make America go away), while on the front a pun in Danish can be translated as “Enough is enough!”.
“Now you see politicians who go and say: It’s enough. So I think it’s here. Before we said: OK, let’s talk about it, and OK, we’ll find out. Now it’s more like: OK, this is too crazy. Enough is enough,” their author Jesper Rabe Tønnesen told Novinka.

We will buy California
Trump’s ideas with Greenland also spurred a group of Danish activists a year ago to launch a satirical campaign called “Denmarkification”. With a similar obviousness as Trump, they talk about the need to control an island belonging to Denmark, in which they propose that Denmark buy California.
They also have good reasons for this – they calculate that the European country of six million people would get sun, beaches, avocado toast for everyone or Silicon Valley. The campaign also offers Californians free health care, better education and paid parental leave. Humor and satire are also reflected in the proposals for a new flag and the name of the state – it should be called “New Denmark”.
patches is now approaching 270,000 signatures, the goal is to have half a million.
