MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has issued a dire warning for those living near Mount Kanlaon, urging immediate evacuation following the volcano’s eruption. The Philippines’ Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) stressed the need for heightened safety measures and preparedness as Mount Kanlaon, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, showed signs of increased activity.

In a statement released Tuesday evening, Remulla issued a clear call to action for local authorities in affected regions. He urged all local chief executives to immediately begin the evacuation of residents residing within the 4 to 6-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) surrounding the volcano. The DILG emphasized the critical need to prioritize the safety of individuals and communities in the path of potential volcanic hazards.
