Charli XCX Addresses Backlash Over Berlin Film Festival After-Party

Pop star Charli XCX has responded to criticism regarding her attendance at an after-party following the Berlin International Film Festival premiere of her mockumentary, The Moment. The controversy stems from allegations that the party was hosted by someone with ties to the Russian government.

Backlash and Allegations

The after-party, held on February 14, 2026, was organized by Anastasia Shevtsova, a DJ and model likewise known as Petit. Billboard and Forbes reported that Shevtsova is the daughter of Zhanna Shevtsova, president of the Russian government-funded Traditsiya Foundation. This foundation reportedly promotes Russian culture and has links to Vladimir Putin’s Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.

Critics, including Ukrainian artists, have voiced concerns about the connection, arguing that supporting individuals linked to the Russian government normalizes and legitimizes Russia’s ongoing actions in Ukraine. Prime Timer noted that protests occurred following the event.

Charli XCX’s Response

On February 19, Charli XCX addressed the controversy via her Instagram Story. She stated, “For clarity, neither me nor my team were aware of any of the alleged affiliations around the party in Berlin.” She further emphasized her stance, declaring, “I would like to capture this opportunity to say I stand against the atrocities committed by the Russian government in Ukraine and I stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.” MSN reported on the singer’s statement.

Anastasia Shevtsova’s Statement

Anastasia Shevtsova also released a statement on Instagram, stating her family has ties to Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, and that the conflict deeply affects her personally. She asserted that she has lived and worked in Europe for the past four years, focusing on her artistic work and maintaining no involvement in politics or the conflict.

The Premiere and Film Context

The controversy unfolded after the premiere of The Moment, an Aidan Zamiri-directed mockumentary starring Charli XCX, at the Berlinale Film Festival. The film premiered on February 14, 2026, with the after-party following shortly after.
