Bears Depth Chart Projection Ahead of Preseason Finale
Table of Contents
The Chicago Bears blew out the Buffalo Bills, 38-0, in their second preseason game, where starters and reserves had a chance to shine at Soldier Field.
Quarterback Caleb Williams and the starting offense made a statement on the opening seven-play, 92-yard scoring drive that culminated in a 36-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus. It set the tone for the remainder of the game, where quarterbacks Tyson Bagent and Austin Reed had solid showings. Simultaneously occurring, the defence was flat-out dominant, shutting out a Bills team that rested their starters. Still,it’s always impressive to record a shutout. But the Bears, thanks in large part to their defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, established an aggressive tone early and carried that through the remainder of the game with sacks and takeaways.
Now, the bears are set to wrap up the preseason on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night, where head coach Ben Johnson said the starters will play (but for how long remains to be seen).Ahead of Friday’s preseason finale against the Chiefs, here’s a look at our current depth chart projection:
Quarterbacks
Starter: caleb Williams
Backups: Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum, Austin Reed
What to know: The Bears brought Keenum in to serve as a mentor for Williams. But Bagent has proven to be a solid backup in his two seasons in the league, so even if Bagent wins the backup job (which looks likely), it wouldn’t be out of the question for the team to carry three QBs.
Running backs
Starter: D’Andre swift
Backups: Roschon Johnson, Kyle Monangai, Travis Homer, Ian Wheeler, Deion Hankins, Brittain Brown
What to know: Swift, Johnson and Monangai are pretty much locked in as the top three running backs at this point, which leaves it to Homer and Ian Wheeler. While wheeler has impressed this preseason, Homer gets the last roster spot due to his valuable contributions on special teams.
Wide receivers
Starters: DJ Moore, Rome Odunze
Backups: Olamide Zaccheaus, Luther Burden III, Devin Duvernay, Tyler Scott, Miles Boykin, Maurice Alexander, JP Richardson, Samori Toure, Jahdae Walker
* What to know: The Bears have a crowded wide receiver room, and several players are battling for the final roster spots.
