Man in China Survives 171 Days After Receiving Pig Liver Transplant

Jakarta – Scientists still believe genetically engineered pig organs can help humans survive. This includes organs like kidneys, hearts, and livers.

A 71-year-old man from anhui, China, is one of the patients who underwent a pig liver transplant and lived for over a month. He received the organ last year.

The organ functioned normally for 38 days – about five weeks. However, doctors had to remove the pig’s liver due to blood clots, a complication from the surgery.

This patient was the first person to survive this long after receiving a transplant from a genetically modified pig. He lived for 171 days with the new organ before it had to be removed.

Researchers are hopeful this case shows that pig organs could be a viable option for people needing transplants. There’s a huge shortage of human organs available, and pig organs could help fill that gap. It’s significant to note that this is still experimental, and there are risks involved, but it’s a promising step forward.

The team continues to study the patient and analyze the data to understand why the blood clots formed and how to prevent them in future transplants. They believe further research will improve the success rate of these procedures.
