Self-Defense Trainer Arrested in East Java Athlete Abuse Case
Surabaya, Indonesia – A self-defense trainer, Wira Prasetya Catur, 44, has been arrested and is currently being held by the East Java Regional Police as a suspect in a case of athlete abuse. The arrest follows reports of alleged sexual violence against a female martial arts athlete.
According to Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, the investigation began immediately after receiving the victim’s report. “After receiving the report from the victim, the East Java Regional Police investigation team immediately carried out a series of investigation and investigative steps, starting from examining witnesses, collecting evidence, to examining the suspect himself,” stated Abast during a press conference on Monday, March 9, 2026 as reported by Detikjatim.
Abast emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting the victim’s rights throughout the legal process. “We (East Java Regional Police) ensure that the protection and fulfillment of victims’ rights is a top priority during the legal process,” he added.
The alleged incidents occurred in multiple locations, including Jombang, Ngawi, and Bali. Authorities believe the suspect exploited his position and proximity to the victim to commit the unlawful acts. “So, there are approximately 3 areas where this crime occurred. The suspect is suspected of committing an unlawful act against the victim by taking advantage of the situation and proximity,” explained Abast, formerly Head of Public Relations of Poda West Java as reported by Detikjatim.
