"I was desperate to escape his control, but I didn’t know how," she recounted, her voice trembling. She told the court of Dartevelle’s controlling behavior, including frequent angry phone calls, relentless demands for sexual acts, and even invasive monitoring of her phone and social media.
Adding to her testimony, the woman revealed that Dartevelle would use their meetings at hotels in Doubs as an opportunity to pressure her into bringing sexually suggestive items.
"I was paralyzed with fear and felt trapped," she explained. “I feared his reaction if I refused, and it frequently enough resulted in sexual retribution."
This harrowing experience forced the former athlete to abandon her promising tennis career due to the significant toll it took on her physical and mental health. In 2018, she formally reported the alleged assault, but the legal process has been drawn out.
Adding another layer to the already complex situation, the judicial investigation has uncovered the involvement of a man closely connected to the woman’s family within the tennis community, suggesting a web of complicity and manipulation possibly contributing to her vulnerability.
