Google Completes Acquisition of Wiz, Signaling a New Era in Cloud Security

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. And NEW YORK, N.Y. – March 11, 2026 – Google LLC today announced the completion of its acquisition of Wiz, a leading cloud and AI security platform headquartered in New York. The $32 billion all-cash transaction, initially announced in March 2025, marks the largest acquisition in Alphabet’s history and a significant strategic move in the increasingly competitive cloud security landscape.

A Strategic Investment in Cloud Security

The acquisition of Wiz is a key investment by Google Cloud to bolster its security offerings and enable organizations to build and deploy applications securely across any cloud or AI platform. As businesses and governments increasingly migrate data and systems to the cloud and embrace agile development practices, the necessitate for robust security measures has become paramount. Attackers are also leveraging AI, operating with greater speed and sophistication, necessitating a proactive defense.

What is Wiz and Why Did Google Acquire It?

Founded in January 2020 by Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Roy Reznik and Yinon Costica – all veterans of Israel’s elite 8200 intelligence unit – Wiz rapidly gained prominence for its innovative approach to cloud security. The company’s core product is a cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP) that connects directly to all major cloud environments without requiring agents.

This agentless, multi-cloud architecture differentiates Wiz from traditional security solutions. Instead of fragmented tools, Wiz offers a unified “security graph” that maps relationships and dependencies between cloud resources, identifying potential attack paths before they can be exploited. This capability complements Google Cloud’s existing infrastructure and AI expertise, including AI-powered threat intelligence and security operations tools.

Rapid Growth and Market Position

Wiz experienced unprecedented growth, reaching $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) within 18 months and exceeding $500 million in ARR by July 2024. By the end of 2025, the company surpassed $1 billion in ARR, serving 45% of Fortune 100 companies. The CNAPP market itself is experiencing rapid expansion, surpassing $2 billion in revenue in 2023 with a 48% year-over-year growth rate. Estimates project the market to reach $10.9 billion by 2025 and potentially $40 billion by 2030.

A Deal Almost Undone

The acquisition process wasn’t without its challenges. In the summer of 2024, Google initially offered $23 billion for Wiz, but the offer was rejected as the company believed it was undervalued and pursued an initial public offering (IPO). Google subsequently increased its offer to $30 billion, and ultimately settled on the final price of $32 billion in March 2025. Regulatory approvals from the US and European Union were secured by the end of 2025 and February 2026, respectively, with the European Commission requiring Wiz to maintain its multi-cloud support for AWS and Azure customers.

The Future of Cloud Security with Google and Wiz

Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will provide a unified security platform designed to improve threat detection, prevention, and response. The combined capabilities will help organizations stay ahead of emerging threats, including those created using AI models, protect against attacks targeting AI models, and utilize AI to enhance security operations. The platform will offer a consistent set of tools and policies across all major cloud environments, from code to runtime.

This acquisition is expected to boost the adoption of multicloud security, empowering companies to leverage multiple cloud providers and fostering innovation in cloud computing and AI applications.
