Jakarta’s Pramono Anung Eyes Ancol Integration to Alleviate JIS Traffic Congestion
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced plans to connect the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) with the Ancol recreational area to mitigate traffic congestion during events. The move, revealed during a visit to JIS for the JIS Ramadan Fest 2026 on Sunday, March 1, 2026, aims to provide additional parking capacity and improve accessibility to the stadium.
JIS as a Community Hub
Governor Anung emphasized the importance of JIS being accessible to the public, praising Jakpro for hosting events that foster a connection between the international-standard stadium and local communities. “In particular, I give my appreciation to JakPro for holding this event. This shows that the international standard JIS has a close relationship with the communities around JIS,” he stated during his speech at JIS.
Addressing Traffic Concerns
Acknowledging the significant traffic congestion around JIS during events, particularly when Persija Jakarta plays or concerts are held, Governor Anung highlighted the Ancol connection as a key solution. “Especially when Persija is playing or there is a concert, people will definitely feel extraordinary traffic jams in this place. So I decided to connect JIS with Ancol. As people can park in Ancol for any event, and in Ancol you can park 10 thousand cars,” he explained.
Future Developments and Accessibility
Beyond the Ancol link, Governor Anung expressed his desire for a KRL (commuter line) station at JIS to further enhance accessibility and encourage greater public use of the facility. He envisions JIS as a vibrant sports and recreational venue for North Jakarta residents, comparable to Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) in South Jakarta. “So, as a stadium that has splendor, I really aim for this place to be perceived as a sports venue for the people of North Jakarta,” he said. He also indicated support for opening facilities like jogging tracks to the public, mirroring the accessibility of GBK.
JIS as a Key Component of Jakarta’s Global City Vision
These developments align with Jakarta’s broader ambition to become one of the top 50 global cities by 2030. According to a press conference held on August 5, 2025, Governor Pramono Anung identified transportation and mobility, physical infrastructure, and digital infrastructure as key areas for strengthening to achieve this goal. The Jakarta International Stadium is already considered an adequate infrastructure asset for the city [1].
Jakpro, the government-owned property company responsible for developing and managing the JIS zone, is focused on creating a sustainable zone that supports Jakarta’s growth as a global city [2]. The company is also exploring potential collaborations, such as with Persija Jakarta, to maximize the stadium’s utilization [3].
Priority Use for Persija Jakarta
Persija Jakarta is set to receive priority use of the Jakarta International Stadium, as confirmed by Governor Pramono Anung [4].
