Prague Car Festival Auction Sets New Record
This year’s Prague Car Festival featured not only a stunning display of automobiles but also an exciting auction led by seasoned auctioneer Pavel Kočí. Of the thirteen items presented, nine found new owners at remarkably attractive prices. The auction achieved a new historical record with a motorcycle selling for 2.2 million crowns.
The auction, held as part of the Prague Car Festival for the fourth consecutive year, showcased 14 items, including a watch benefiting charity through the Zbraslav-Jíloviště veterans’ race.
A key attraction was a collection of BMW motorcycles from the private holdings of former NHL hockey player Martin Hanzal, alongside the unique Praga Grand from the Olomouc Veteran Arena, which began with a starting price of 12.5 million crowns. Othre vehicles also drew attention with their compelling histories, such as the Jawa 650 Classic Limited Edition.
A notably spirited bidding war erupted over the Jawa 650, with two phone bidders and one in the hall raising the price in increments of five thousand crowns. Notably, Martin Hanzal himself was among those present, offering three of his BMW motorcycles in the auction. Despite a determined effort alongside his son, he ultimately conceded after the price surpassed half a million crowns. The Jawa was ultimately sold for 525,000 crowns. “I really wanted it, but I set a limit for myself and didn’t want to exceed it,” Hanzal explained after the event.
One of Hanzal’s offered motorcycles, the BMW 1.8 CSL Art Bike by Alexander Calder, was auctioned via the Livebid platform for its starting price of 890,000 crowns.
