Nueva Vizcaya’s Coffee Industry Set for Growth with P9.3-Million Innovation Center
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – The province of Nueva Vizcaya is poised to unlock its coffee potential with the establishment of a P9.3-million Coffee Innovation Center (CIC). The initiative aims to bolster the local coffee industry and provide crucial support to farmers in the region.
Boosting Coffee Quality and Production
The CIC, to be located at Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), will serve as a central hub for research, training, and the dissemination of modern agricultural technologies to coffee farmers across the province [1]. Provincial Agriculturist Rizal Absalom Baysa emphasized that the center’s primary goal is to enhance coffee quality, increase production yields, and ultimately improve the income of local farmers [1].
Funding and Infrastructure Development
The provincial government has initially allocated P3.3 million for the construction of the CIC, with an additional P6 million earmarked for the project’s full implementation [1]. This investment is part of a broader strategy to develop the agricultural sector and address infrastructure challenges that have historically hindered the growth of the coffee industry.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility, the provincial government has also invested in improving farm access roads. The “Kalsada ti Kabanbantayan” (Roads in the Uplands) program has already rehabilitated 225 farm access roads in upland areas, with 43 more currently undergoing improvements, totaling a budget of P265 million [1]. The “Dalan ti Umili” (People’s Road) Program has completed additional farm-to-market roads, funded with P50 million from the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) [1].
Partnership with Nueva Vizcaya State University
The development of the coffee industry is being supported through a strong partnership between the PLGU and NVSU. In January 2026, Governor Jose Gambito handed over PHP 3.9 million to NVSU as the first tranche of funding for upgrading equipment at the Nueva Vizcaya Coffee Processing and Innovation Center [3]. The total budget for this project is PHP 9,949,117.50, with the remaining funds scheduled for release in July [3]. An additional PHP 1.8 million was allocated to upgrade the Nueva Vizcaya Climate Change Center [3].
A Game-Changer for the Local Economy
Governor Jose Gambito views the CIC as a pivotal development for the local coffee industry, which has long been constrained by logistical challenges [2]. He believes that providing farmers with access to modern technologies and training will significantly improve their yields and quality, leading to increased income and economic growth for the province [2].
With ongoing investments in agricultural development and infrastructure, Nueva Vizcaya is optimistic about its future as a key player in the global coffee market [2].
