New Findings from teh KPK: Agents Who Don’t Make Deposits Don’t Get Hajj Quotas

The KPK revealed the latest findings in the investigation of the alleged corruption case of the distribution of additional Hajj quotas in 2024. The KPK suspects that special Hajj agents will not receive quota allocations if they do not deposit money.
Currently, there are no suspects in this case, even though the KPK has raised its status from investigation to investigation. The KPK has so far prevented three people from traveling abroad.
They are former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas; Yaqut’s former staff, Ishfah Abidal Aziz; and the boss of Maktour, Fuad hasan Masyhur. The prevention was carried out because the three are needed in Indonesia as witnesses for the investigation of the case.
The alleged corruption investigated by the KPK is related to the distribution of an additional 20,000 Hajj quotas in 2024, during Yaqut’s tenure as Minister of Religion. The additional quota was intended to reduce the queue or waiting period for Indonesian regular pilgrims,which can reach 20 years.Indonesia initially received a Hajj quota of 221,000 pilgrims in 2024. after the addition of 20,000,the total Indonesian Hajj quota in 2024 was 241,000.
though, the additional quota was divided equally, namely 10,000 for regular Hajj and 10,000 for special Hajj. In fact, the Hajj Law at that time regulated a special Hajj quota of only 8% of the total Indonesian Hajj quota. Indonesia finally used a quota of 213,320 for regular pilgrims and 27,680 for special pilgrims in 2024.
The KPK saeid that the policy during the Yaqut era resulted in 8,400 regular pilgrims who had been waiting in line for a longer time being disadvantaged.
