Record-Breaking Homecoming Traffic in Indonesia: Over 270,000 Vehicles Exit Jakarta
Jakarta – PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk reported a record-breaking homecoming traffic flow this year, with over 270,000 vehicles leaving Jakarta. The peak of this year’s Eid al-Fitr homecoming flow occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The traffic volume managed by Jasa Marga reached 270,315 vehicles, a 98.3 percent increase compared to normal traffic levels, and a 4.8 percent increase compared to the peak of the 2025 Eid homecoming .
This figure represents the cumulative traffic flow from four main toll gates: Cikupa (West direction), Ciawi (South direction), Cikampek, and Kalihurip Utama (East direction). Jasa Marga also reported the highest recorded traffic flow towards the Trans Java Toll Road, reaching 175,754 vehicles – a 6 percent increase compared to last year’s homecoming peak .
Traffic Management and Engineering
Despite the record-high vehicle numbers, Jasa Marga stated that traffic conditions were well-controlled due to effective traffic engineering measures. Congestion was observed on the MBZ Flyover and the lower Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. To address this, Jasa Marga, in coordination with the Indonesian National Police, implemented contraflow measures, expanding from one to three lanes, and a national one-way system from Km 70 to Km 414 . The traffic volume on these sections reached the highest levels in their operational history.
Jasa Marga aims to resolve traffic density within 12 hours, and reported that conditions had returned to normal by 11:00 WIB on Thursday, March 19, 2026, with vehicle speeds returning to average levels.
Technology and Coordination
Jasa Marga continues to optimize its utilize of technology, including the Travoy application and its Intelligent Transport System (ITS), as a decision support system for traffic engineering decisions made by the Police . The company emphasized the importance of continued cross-sectoral coordination involving all stakeholders.
Appeals to Drivers and Toll Discounts
Jasa Marga appealed to drivers of vehicles with three or more axles to comply with regulations regarding restrictions on goods vehicle operations during the homecoming period, as outlined in a joint decree issued on February 5, 2026.
As the return flow approaches, Jasa Marga urges the public to plan their trips carefully, avoiding the anticipated peak on March 24, 2026. Motorists are also encouraged to take advantage of toll rate discounts applied during the reverse flow period from 00:00 WIB on March 26, 2026, to 00:00 WIB on March 27, 2026 .
“As with the homecoming flow, Jasa Marga again appeals to the public to arrange departure times for the returning flow to support smooth traffic flow so that the travel experience during the Eid 2026 homecoming and return journey becomes safer and more comfortable,” stated Rivan A. Purwantono, President Director of Jasa Marga.
