Record Homecoming Traffic in Indonesia: 270,315 Vehicles Depart Jakarta
Jakarta – A record 270,315 vehicles left Jakarta on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, marking the highest volume of homecoming traffic in Indonesian history, according to PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk. This figure represents a 98.3% increase compared to a normal day and a 4.6% rise from the peak of the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period.
Traffic Flow Breakdown
Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono explained that the traffic count is a cumulative figure from four main toll gates: Cikupa (westbound), Ciawi (southbound), Cikampek, and Kalihurip Utama (eastbound). The company also reported a record 175,754 vehicles traveling towards the Trans Java Toll Road, a 6% increase compared to last year’s peak.
Traffic Management Measures
Despite the record-breaking numbers, Jasa Marga stated that traffic conditions were well-managed due to effective traffic engineering. Congestion was observed on the MBZ Flyover and the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. To mitigate this, Jasa Marga, in coordination with the Police, implemented contraflow measures, expanding from one to three lanes, and a national one-way system from KM 70 to KM 414.
“The volume of vehicles passing on these two sections was recorded as the highest in the history of its operation,” Purwantono added.
Return Traffic Anticipation
Jasa Marga anticipates the peak of return traffic to occur on March 24, 2026 (H+3 Eid). The company is encouraging travelers to plan their trips accordingly and accept advantage of toll rate discounts available during the return flow period from March 26, 2026, at 00:00 WIB to March 27, 2026, at 00:00 WIB. Travelers can find the latest traffic information via the Travoy Application, the Call Center at 133, and Jasa Marga’s social media accounts.
Jasa Marga also appealed to drivers of vehicles with three or more axles to comply with regulations restricting goods vehicle operations, as outlined in a joint decree issued on February 5, 2026, by the Director General of Land Transportation, the National Police Traffic Corps, and the Director General of Highways.
“As with the homecoming flow, Jasa Marga again appeals to the public to arrange the departure time for the return flow to support smooth traffic flow so that the travel experience during the Eid 2026 homecoming and return journey becomes safer and more comfortable,” Purwantono concluded.
